SPRINGFIELD – Christians will gather at the Illinois State Capitol December 3rd at noon to celebrate the 12th Annual Nativity Dedication Ceremony. The crèche and manger scene will stand in the Illinois Capitol Rotunda through Christmas – as the First Amendment allows – for as long as the displays are privately-sponsored and temporary in nature, the organizers say.

At least 19 other states have followed Illinois’ lead in displaying a Nativity Scene in their capitols.

Illinois' Capitol Nativity Scene is funded solely by private citizens and through the support of the Thomas More Society, a 501 (c) (3) charitable organization.

Legal representation has been provided in the past through the Thomas More Society, a national public interest law firm based in Chicago, whose mission is to defend life, marriage and religious liberty, including the right of U.S. citizens to proclaim their religious faith and faith-based values in public squares across our nation.

Those wishing to sing by the Nativity Scene in the IL Rotunda, should contact the Secretary of State’s Office at 217-782-8996 for a permit. Note: Singing is limited to the noon hour.

Speakers scheduled for the noon event includes Tom Brejcha, Esq., President and Chief Counsel of Thomas More Society, Chicago & SNSC Member; Pastor James Pittman, New Hope Church, Palatine; State Rep. Tim Butler, Springfield; Gary Pierce, Key of David Ministries, Springfield; Delbra Pratt, Illinois Prayer Caucus; Beth Rogers, SNSC member, Springfield.

In addition to those mentioned above, the hosting committee includes Rev. Bernie Lutchman – President, Business Men In Christ Springfield; Sr. Christine M. Moskal, C.R. – Thomas More Society, Chicago; David E. Smith – Executive Director, Illinois Family Institute and Julie Zanoza of Lincoln, IL.
