Democrat Tweet shows what Illinois is up against in balancing a budget

SPRINGFIELD – In one Tweet Monday morning from Springfield, Democrat State Rep. Chris Welch (Chicago) showed the world one reason why Illinois is unable to come up with a balanced state budget. It's simple – simple math, that is. Math that Rep. Welch evidently doesn't understand.

This is what we're up against, folks … and why Speaker Madigan so easily leads his Democrat caucus at the head of the pack over the fiscal cliff.

  1. Whoever tweeted that is obviously math challenged. Going from 3.75% to 4.95% is an increase of 1.2 PERCENTAGE POINTS, but it is NOT an increase of 1.2%.
Here is the correct way to calculate percent change (in this case, percent increase):
(4.95 – 3.75)/3.75 = 0.32, which is the decimal equivalent of 32%. Rauner is indeed correct. The Dems are ignorant and/or stupid, as always.

  2. Can we please find high school educated people that have worked for a living get elected to run our governments. College education is failing us. Next thing you know 93 million people a day will be killed in fun violence

  3. Uh, I’m not for the increase, but going from 3.75 to 4.95 is indeed a 32% increase. If you made $10000 before, your tax bill was $375. It will now be $495. That $120 difference is an increase of 120/375 = 32%.
