CAROL STREAM – The Illinois Family Institute's traditional values principles were once again smeared Monday when an Illinois-based Reuters reporter gave credence to the list of Southern Poverty Law Center's list of 32 Illinois-based "hate groups."

Being included alongside 31 other neo-Nazi and black separationist groups as an "anti-LGBT" hate group is "morally indefensible" and "intellectually dishonest" of the Center, IFI writer Laurie Higgins wrote in an email.

Spurred on by the weekend's violent clash between white supremacists and black separationists in Charlottesville Virginia, newsman Dave McKinney thought it helpful to tweet:

Higgins, who is a key opinion piece contributor for Illinois Family Institute, said IFI unequivocally denounces racism. Two members of IFI and its sister organization Illinois Family Action are black.

"It is both morally indefensible and intellectually dishonest of the ethically impoverished Southern Poverty Law Center to include the Illinois Family Institute on its list of 'hate' groups alongside repugnant Neo-Nazi and white supremacist groups," she said. "IFI is included on this list because we espouse theologically orthodox views of homosexuality, marriage, and the intrinsic and profound meaning of objective, immutable biological sex."

IFI holds the same views on LGBT issues as the Roman Catholic Church, Presbyterian Church in America, Orthodox Presbyterian Church, Missouri Synod Lutheran Church, Evangelical Free Church, Evangelical Covenant Church, Eastern Orthodox Church, Christian Reformed Church, Southern Baptist Church, Anglican Church in North America,  Assemblies of God, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormon church), Seventh Day Adventist Church, scores of non-denominational churches, the Bible and over 2,000 years of church history, she said.

"Curiously, the SPLC hasn’t included them on its 'hate' groups list—yet," Higgins said.

  1. One reason for SPLC’s inclusion of normal groups on their hate list is fearmongering. How are they going to get their dull-witted base to donate to them without first ginning up ominous specters of “hate groups” that are lurking everywhere, just waiting to pounce on unsuspecting “victims”?
For them it’s a twofer: stir up strife and incite feeble-minded followers to violence, as well as increase donations. Win-win!

  2. The SPLC is the hate group, lying about people is nothing short of hate. They use fear & intimidation against persons with opposing opinions. Same tactic Hitler’s Secret Service used in Nazi Germany.

  3. Southern Poverty Law Center’s is morally wrong and violates God law. How many atheist are in this radical organization.
Laurie Higgins and the IFI have high morals.
    God Bless IFI
    Carl Lambrecht

  4. SPLC is pretty, ahem, conservative in the criteria they use to define hate groups. The fact that there *are* so many other anti-LGBT groups and churches shows just how very over the top the IFI’s rhetoric is to get them classified as a hate group.
I had more to say, but really, if you don’t want to be considered a hate group, don’t spread misinformation, junk science, and demonize group of people. It’s not difficult.

  5. The SPLC continues to expose itself as a fringe Left-wing group… To my knowledge, IFI has never been involved in a violent march or protest. IFI has never called for the elimination of certain groups of people, but has instead fought for the civil rights of ALL people, including the preeminent right to life.
Moreover, it is telling that groups like Black Lives Matter and Antifa — who have been involved in violent crimes including burning, looting , beating, and loudly advocating for the murder of police — are not on this list of so-called “hate” groups.
Are we surprised? Once again Leftists use ad hominem attacks to discredit individuals or groups that they cannot intellectually engage with.

  6. You mean a group of people based on sinful perverted behavior, because people are not born homosexual. Being homosexual is a choice or a mental disorder. Scientists mapped the human genome and did not find a so-called gay gene. Is that junk science too?? Activists are the ones providing junk science. And remember one can hate a behavior without hating the person. IFI opposition to an immoral behavior doesn’t make them a hate group, SPLC hates Christians for believing the word of God. SPLC wants to rewrite the Bible. Narc, the truth isn’t in you or the SPLC, because you both want to deny America our constitutionally protected 1st amendment freedoms…. we will never give up our religious freedoms. In my opinion SPLC = Persecution
Persecution: hostility and ill-treatment, especially because of religious beliefs
Hitler, Stalin, Lenin, King George, Islam, Mussolini all practiced it.

  7. The SPLC is linked to the attempted mass murder in the 2012 shooting at the Washington, D.C., office of the Family Research Council (FRC). Floyd Corkins II was stopped by the FRC building manager, who was shot in the process. Corkins confessed to the FBI that he intended to commit mass murder and was motivated by the so-called “Hate Map” on the SPLC website that listed FRC as a “hate group.”
And the D.C. shooter, who gunned down Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA) and four others, including two U.S. Capitol Police officers, was a Facebook fan of the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC).
SPLC has allot of nerve calling anyone a hate group.

  8. Being LGBT is not a choice and certainly not a mental disorder. I know that because the very people that study mental disorders say so. And I have to say, you have a very … simplistic view of human development if you think all human behavior is genetically defined. This ignores all of development, fetal environment, and a host of other factors. Hers just one example of the science from actual scientists: https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2008/06/080628205430.htm
Now if you’ll excuse me, tonight’s episode of the homosexual agenda involves homemade peach cobbler, so I have better things to do.

  9. Being homosexual or trans is a choice as ALL behavior is a choice, that is unless mental issues are involved. You never provide any objective scientifc facts to prove your assertion, and for good reason because no one is born a homosexual or trans. Simplistic view?? It was the homosexual rights activists who for YEARS claimed they couldn’t help it because it was genetic. After scientists completed the Human Genome project and no homo or trans gene was found the activists back stroked to a new lie. That lame link you posted has no value in proving anything. At least now you finally admit there is indeed a homosexual agenda.

  10. Dr Qazi Rahman has had 10 years to scientifically prove something, yet his bogus study is all he has. His study is not objective science, it has been discredited by most true researchers. ALL BEHAVIOR IS A CHOICE, for years homo activists claimed they were forced by genes to be homosexual, and that is known to be untrue. Genes don’t mind control. Negative Life experiences can and do influence hehavior. Negative experiences like sexual & physical abuse. To say that genes and fetal environment make it impossible to have a normal relationship with the oppositie sex is ludicrous.
