In a shocking display of law enforcement negligence, the Bolingbrook Police Department declined to arrest two individuals who physically assaulted federal immigration agents on Sunday morning — even after the victims reported being struck repeatedly in the head while attempting to make a lawful arrest. The incident, which occurred in broad daylight, raises serious questions about whether Bolingbrook Police are enforcing the law or protecting lawbreakers.
According to the Village’s own statement, released on October 19, 2025, officers responded at 9:52 a.m. to the 100 block of Williamsburg Lane for a report of a battery. When officers arrived, they met with federal immigration agents who said they were attacked by two women while trying to detain a 46-year-old man. The agents reported being struck multiple times in the head before the suspects fled into a nearby home.

Under federal law, assaulting a federal officer performing official duties is a felony under 18 U.S.C. § 111, punishable by imprisonment. Yet despite clear probable cause — and victims on scene identifying the suspects — Bolingbrook Police made no arrests.
Instead, according to the department’s own post, “medical attention was declined, and no arrests were made.” The statement ends there. No mention of warrants. No charges. No federal coordination. No accountability.

That decision is not just baffling — it’s indefensible.
Local residents immediately noticed. Within minutes of the post going live on the Village of Bolingbrook’s official Facebook page, a flood of comments appeared mocking and celebrating the assault. “Serves those bstrds right,” wrote one user. Another added, “Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. No sympathy for ICE at all.” Dozens of others joined in, laughing and posting emojis in support of the attackers.
Not one of those comments was removed by the Village or police. No statement was issued condemning the calls for violence against federal agents. No arrests. No outrage. Nothing but silence from a department that seems increasingly comfortable turning a blind eye to criminal acts — especially when the victims wear a badge.
This incident is not isolated. It’s part of a troubling pattern in Bolingbrook — one that Illinois Review has documented before.
Earlier this year, Illinois Review published exclusive coverage of a 2024 hit-and-run involving local resident Jackie Trynare, who struck a young child riding a bicycle and fled the scene. Despite overwhelming witness statements and physical evidence, Bolingbrook Police refused to arrest Trynare. When Illinois Review filed Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests for the bodycam footage and full incident report, the department rejected the requests in violation of state transparency laws, citing “ongoing investigation” months after the fact — even as no charges were ever filed.
The department’s message was clear then, and it’s clear now: accountability ends where political convenience begins.
In the Trynare case, the victim was a child. In this latest case, the victims are federal agents performing their duty. In both, Bolingbrook Police looked the other way.
How can a police department claim to uphold the law when it refuses to enforce it? How can residents trust their local government when justice depends on who the victim is?
Federal agents attacked in the line of duty should be a red line. There should be zero hesitation in making arrests and referring charges to the U.S. Attorney’s Office. Yet Bolingbrook Police, instead of acting decisively, appear to have retreated — afraid, perhaps, of public backlash from the same online mob that now cheers the assault on law enforcement.
Worse still, the department allowed that mob to use the Village’s own communication platform to glorify violence against federal employees. On the official Village of Bolingbrook Facebook page — a government-run page bearing the Village seal — dozens of residents mocked ICE agents, justified assault, and celebrated lawlessness. None of those comments have been removed or addressed publicly.
At best, it’s incompetence. At worst, it’s complicity.
When a police department refuses to uphold the law equally, it invites chaos. The Bolingbrook Police Department’s inaction has already eroded public confidence, and this latest episode may be the final straw for many residents who see a department that enforces politics, not justice.
Illinois Review attempted to contact the Bolingbrook Police Department for comment on whether the suspects have been referred for federal prosecution or if new arrests are planned. As of publication, no response has been received.
But what’s clear is this: Bolingbrook Police had federal victims, eyewitness accounts, and a clear felony under federal statute — and chose to do nothing. That is a dereliction of duty.
The FBI and Department of Homeland Security should immediately review the case to determine whether local authorities interfered with or failed to cooperate in a federal investigation. When local police refuse to protect federal officers, they don’t just violate trust — they undermine the rule of law.
Unfortunately, Bolingbrook’s culture of selective enforcement appears entrenched. Whether it’s failing to arrest a motorist who struck a child or ignoring a violent assault on federal agents, the pattern remains the same: the politically safe route always wins.
That’s not law enforcement — that’s cowardice.
Residents deserve better. They deserve a police department that enforces the law consistently, regardless of politics or public pressure. They deserve transparency from a government that doesn’t hide behind rejected FOIAs and vague “ongoing investigations.” And they deserve leaders who will stand up for those who protect our nation, not sit quietly while social media mobs cheer on federal crimes.
Bolingbrook’s slogan may claim it’s “a place to grow,” but for too long, it’s been a place where accountability dies.
Until arrests are made and the department stops shielding offenders from consequences, Bolingbrook will remain a symbol of everything wrong with local law enforcement in Illinois — a department that won’t protect the innocent, won’t support the federal government, and won’t tell the truth when confronted.
